MY grave

I read some poetry by Emily Dickinson. She wrote about death and criticized society. It inspired me to write a poem dealing with both death and society. Here is that attempt.

MY grave

I am waiting in my ornate box-
waiting for what seems like eternity.
Death advised me to rest here while he ventured to all the now living.

In life,
Some sought to avoid me,
Some sought to change me,
Some sought to flatter me,
Some never heard of me.
But it all seems silly now,
for they will all join me.
Yes, even in death I have continued my superiority.
